We get a few days every winter where the weather turns unseasonably warm and everyone rushes outside to enjoy it. Yesterday was one of those days. We took Sadie, our collie, out to the Weldon Spring Conservation Area for hike before the start of the Super Bowl.
Weldon Spring was once part of large government munitions complex that produced and stored explosives during World War II, and then, from 1957 - 1966, processed uranium for atomic bombs. As you might guess, a lot of really nasty crap was left behind. Two of these areas became EPA Superfund cleanup sites and the rest has been carved up into parks and natural areas, and allowed to return to a mostly natural state. As it's still winter, most of the trees and ground cover are bare. But a 65° day in February? I'll take it.
